1. What’s your government name? And how old are you? Give the people a little background about you, who you are, where you from etc…
My government name is Jelani Carter; I’m 19 years old. I am an aspiring hip-hop artist, actor, and comedian on YouTube. I rep New Jersey, even though I was born in New York City. I’m also 1/12th of the legendary December City Music Group Crew.
2. What is the meaning behind your rap name?/Where did it come from and why did you choose it?
My rap name is my government name. I went through a lot of stage name changes. It was JayCee, Jay KiDD, JayCee Da Lil Bo$$ at one point until finally one of my friends was like yo… just use your regular name, it’s unique enough. And I was like you know what? YOU GODDAMN RIGHT. My whole thing is, once I get famous, I don’t want the fact that I made it to be a debate amongst the people who wronged me in my life. I want ALL of them to know that Jelani Carter from high school is the exact same Jelani Carter stunting on your TV screen…. Ya bish. Lmfao that was lame.
3. How did you get into the game?
I was always into music and entertainment, and I knew from an early age that I wasn’t built for a regular 9 to 5 job. So I knew deep down I was put on this earth to either make people’s head nod to my music, or make them laugh. I like the fact with YouTube I can do both. But I think I started rapping when I was either 9 or 10. I say that because I actually have a rap that I wrote when I was 10, but im pretty sure I used to write before that so who knows lol. I think I was talking about popping bubbly during the Christmas time in that rap hahaha.
4. So why do you rap? Is it like a hobby or a career move?
I rap because it’s the only thing I’m good at. Like for real, I’m too small to play basketball, I’m really not that much of a school person to just go to college and enjoy myself and get a degree so rapping it is. It’s honestly one of the very few ways I can express myself. So it’s either this, or become homeless. And I’m not down to be homeless…. I get cold very easily lol. It’s definitely a career move.
5. Who inspires you/Who is your favorite rapper?
Kanye Omari West hands down one of my biggest inspirations and my favorite rapper to ever bless the mic. He can do absolutely NO wrong in my eyes. Him, Kid Cudi, Kendrick Lamar, Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), Drake, Wiz Khalifa, Danny Brown… Those rappers touched me on an emotional level. My whole thing is if you can inspire me emotionally, you will forever be one of the greats to me.
6. What are you trying to bring to the game?
What am I trying to bring to the rap game? I don’t know. I never thought of that before. I guess, bringing hope to the short guys of the world. Rap Game Kevin Hart lmfao.
7. What’s your favorite song or project you ever came out with?
My favorite project has to be my most recent one “Day Dreamerz Radio”. I put so much emotion into that mixtape its kind of crazy. But I don’t mind getting a little personal. Definitely one of my favorites.
8. You got any projects coming out in the near future? If so, what are they?
Future projects? Ummmm…. Im have a bunch of collab mixtapes with various members of December Gang. I know me and Lex got something cooking up, Me and Niq’O got some ill shit planned, Me and Grizz definitely have something dropping in the near future, AND me and this amazing rapper/producer that I work with a lot named MOA have a collab EP coming soon. I also have a solo EP that I’m working on too. So yeah… I’m booked for the rest of 2013 haha.
And finally where can the people find you at online?
