1. What’s your government name? And how old are you? Give the people a little background about you, who you are, where you from etc…
My government name is Steve Berlin, I am 21 years old. I was born in Brooklyn, New York, but moved to New Jersey when i was 8 years old. Since my parents separated when I was only a toddler and my dad stayed in New York, I would always be back and forth between both states, but I most grew up in Jersey. I’ve been a diehard rap fan for as long as I could remember. Besides that, I also love watching sports, and am a diehard Mets, Knicks and NY Giants fan in the 3 major sports.
2. What is the meaning behind your rap name?/Where did it come from and why did you choose it?
My rap name came out organically; me and my friends would always cypher since Middle School, and one day when i was around 14 my boy kinda spat it out, since i always used to try to switch up my style and come out with crazy flows. The name Stevie Styles kinda stuck since then. Before that, it was S-Scrap, which I used to use when I was really young. I still get a kick out of that name to this day.
3. How long you been in the game for?
I’ve been rapping/writing rhymes for as long as I could remember, but I first started taking it seriously around 2 and a half years ago. Since then, I’ve just been trying to perfect my craft as much as possible before releasing anything, and the “Loser” video is my first single off of my upcoming mixtape, which should be out in about 2 to 3 months.
4. How did you get into the game?
Mostly just through my love and admiration for the culture. I’ve also always had a lot of friends who rap, some of whom motivated me in various ways. I’ve always said that my age group is pretty much the “Hip- Hop Generation” since the genre has been so popular from the time we were little kids. Due to that, I feel like so many people fall in love with the craft as young kids, and just keep practicing until they feel as if they’ve developed their skills to the point where the world is ready to hear them.
5. So why do you rap? Is it like a hobby or a career move?
Honestly, I’ve just always been so immersed in hip- hop music since I was a little kid, the genre just became part of my life almost. Rather than defining it strictly with terms like “hobby” or “career move”, I just like to call it a lifestyle. Basically, I rap for my own enjoyment, while simultaneously trying to expose my music to as many ears as possible.
6. Who inspires you/Who is your favorite rapper?
I’m honestly inspired by so many different rappers, from legendary veterans like Nas, Eminem, Jay-z, and Jadakiss to relative newcomers like A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, and all of TDE/Black Hippy. My favorite rapper changes almost weekly, but right now, I’d have to say Kendrick Lamar is killing it right now! He’s definitely had my IPod on lock for a while.
7. What are you trying to bring to the game?
I just wanna bring some truth to the game. I feel like a lot of rappers try to front, and over- emphasize money and materialistic objects in their rhymes, which can work up to a certain point. However, I just wanna make it okay for people to talk about things they really go through, about the things that haunt them, and other such personal events which the audience should be able to relate to. Also, I’m trying to bring back lyrics, much more so in some of my future singles off of this mixtape.
8. What’s your favorite song or project you ever came out with?
Well, I’m still working on my debut mixtape, but I have its blueprint intact, and once its released, I think it will be a very complete piece of work which will define the 21 years of my life so far, while allowing the listeners to truly understand much about who I am as a person.
9. You got any projects coming out in the near future? If so, what are they?
Yes, I am working on my debut mixtape titled “Nothing Vol. 1” (the title will make more sense once the tape is released) . I will also be releasing visuals for several more tracks before and after the mixtape release.
10. And finally where can the people find you at, online?
